When 18-year-old Jamie McKay Tweeted an ultrasound photo with the caption, ?Rest in peace little angel. September 17, 2012,? most of her friends and followers assumed she had suffered a miscarriage.
But the star of MTV?s 16 & Pregnant, who is already mom to 2-year-old daughter Miah, recently took to Twitter to clear up the confusion, revealing that in fact she had an abortion.
?Thank you all for the love and support but I want you to know I did not miscarry. I chose abortion. I chose it out of fear. I feel like I made a mistake and I can?t take it back,? Jamie wrote. ?I have had this in my heart and it has been very hard on me. I was afraid to be judged by my family, my mother, even my dad. So I did it before they could find out. I should have looked into my options more but I didn?t.?
Sympathy soon turned to outrage, with Jamie defending her decision to online ?haters.?
?I will always love that baby. But I have to focus on a career and more importantly Miah,? writes Jamie, whose Twitter photo feed is full of pictures of her toddler.
Jamie and her boyfriend Ryan McElrath were featured on the MTV reality show last year. TMZ reported in 2011 that both parents have troubled pasts, having been previously arrested on charges ranging from assault to cocaine and marijuana possession.
