Well it?s been?several months since I got inside the new sports and recreation center that?s under construction on the quad.? The entire admissions staff got an insiders tour today and got?the opportunity to really see how things will look when the center opens this summer.? There are a number of upcoming opportunities for community members to see the facility this spring and summer, but since there won?t be an occupancy permit until late May it was great to get the hard hat tour today.? It sounds like our admissions visitors will likely be seeing the new facility starting in June on our campus tours?and no you won?t need to wear hard hats:)

We entered the building through the main entrance on the quad?I anticipate that the plywood doors will be replaced with something a bit nicer in the coming weeks!!? On the entry level we got a chance to see the main gym floor which houses 4 basketball courts, and will be used for a number of sporting and recreational activities, as well as a number of campus special events.? We also got to see the main office suite for many of the coaches and our athletic director.? Going upstairs brought us to the indoor track that over looks the main gym floor below.? Bright, airy and wide, the track is a vast improvement over the current offerings for indoor running.? Then is was down several flights? of stairs to see the pool.? In my mind this is the show piece of the building.? Swimming, diving, water polo and much more!!

Along the way we also got to check out the training room, fitness and weight training areas, dance studios and the pit area for robotics.? We didn?t get a chance to see the rowing tanks today?.but I am promised next time!? I am sure I am forgetting a few things, but I am one that can?t wait to get into the new facility this summer.? Hopefully it will inspire me to lose a few pounds:)
